The Key Indicator If Apple Is Having Manufacturing Problems With The iPhone 8

Which countries have first day sales for the iPhone 8 will give a strong indication if Apple and its suppliers are having major manufacturing issues with it. There have been a large number of rumors that by doing away with the home button the new iPhone’s production ramp is going slower than expected. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, may make a statement if there aren’t any major problems but if there are I don’t think he will unless its introduction is delayed.

The rumors have led to speculation that the iPhone 8 may not be announced on September 12th (which I believe would be a major hit to the stock), it may be revealed but first day sales may occur later than the iPhone 7’s upgrade (assume 7s and 7s Plus) or that it may not be available in various countries (namely China) for first day sales. If Apple is experiencing issues with its new high-end iPhone I believe the company will delay it being sold in various countries and China would be a prime candidate since it used to not get the latest iPhones on Day One.
China Mobile did not start selling iPhones until the 5c and 5s in January 2014 (which had been announced in September 2013).
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus had first day availability in 10 countries (US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK) on September 19, 2014. Apple announced on September 30th that they would be available in China on October 17 or almost a month later.

It wasn’t until iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in September 2015 that China was included in the first day order and availability windows. It was added along with New Zealand for a total of 12 countries getting the latest iPhones when they were launched.
For the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Apple significantly increased the number of countries that had first day shipments. There were 28 countries (including China) and the US Virgin Islands which helped with September quarter sales since there were 9 selling days vs. only 2 for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Since Apple stopped giving first weekend orders with the iPhone 6s and there was no first weekend orders or sales information for the iPhone 7 I believe how many countries and especially which ones will receive the iPhone 8 at launch will give a good indication on how the manufacturing is going for the company’s new high-end iPhone.
